How to Invent Everything!
over 7 years ago – Tue, Jul 17, 2018 at 01:15:31 AM

Hi there!  Just a quick note to say I've just launched a new book: it's called HOW TO INVENT EVERYTHING: A Survival Guide for The Stranded Time Traveler and it's basically what happens when I spend a lifetime worrying "if I was sent back in time, would I actually be able to recreate civilization from scratch, or would I be COMPLETELY USELESS??".

This book is the result: an entertaining and thoroughly researched guide to just that: rebuilding civilization from scratch, at any point in Earth's history. I'm really proud of it and I think it might be something you'd be interested in!

Look how pretty!
Look how pretty!

And as a special Kickstarter bonus, it comes with a temporal survival bandana - chock full of information needed to survive in the past - as well as some really pretty temporal tourism postcards.

Information-dense AND fashionable.

Check it out, and thanks for being backers of my writing!  This Kickstarter campaign gets you all these bonus items for the same price as you'd pay for the book at retail, which is amazing.  Your support is what makes books like this possible, and I never forget that. <3

Shipping update!
about 8 years ago – Mon, Jan 15, 2018 at 11:09:43 PM

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a shipping update on all the many packages FULL OF RAD BOOKS we're shipping out.

As of today, 80% of the packages have been shipped. There's a slight delay on some of the packages that have shirts in them: a shipment of shirts has been delayed and although we were expecting it this week, it's now been pushed to next week. So that means that the remaining 20% of packages should start shipping out in a week or so!

If you have any questions about your specific package, you can go through Make That Thing's customer service center here, but I'd hold off for a week if you can - odds are your package will be shipped in that time!

Okay that's all for now!! Thank you again for helping make this book happen, and I've loved seeing the pictures everyone's been taking on Twitter as their book arrives. <3

BOOKS ARE HERE AHHH <3

GUESS WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY?

Books! Books are what came in the mail!
Books! Books are what came in the mail!

Here's the first shipment of the book we made happen.  I'm super excited!  We're not shipping JUST yet: we're still waiting for another box of books to arrive, and the stickers and tattoos - but we are CLOSE.  We are so close I can taste it (it tastes like a paper book that we had printed with your help).

So now, beloved Kickstarter backers, is the time to fill out your survey!  We're using Backerkit, which lets you update your shipping address if things change, add on a copy of my other choosable-path adventure Romeo and/or Juliet if you want, AND MORE.

If you haven't answered your survey yet, now is the time!  You should see a reminder on the Kickstarter website with a link to all pending surveys.  I'll post another update when we're shipping.  MORE SOON!!

Update on book production, plus SNEAK PEEK ART <3
over 8 years ago – Mon, Sep 18, 2017 at 06:41:18 PM

Hi everyone!  Just a quick update to let you know where we're at with WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE PUNCHES A FRIGGIN' SHARK

The past weeks have been spent editing and revising the book (done!) and then commissioning artists for each illustration, once they were locked (done!).  The book is being laid out, and we're waiting on just a few more ending illustrations to come in from the artists, then it's off to the printer! If nothing goes wrong, that'll happen in October. When we're ready to ship we'll send out backer surveys - you'll get yours then!

As you know, every ending is illustrated, so here's a peek at some of them that have already been submitted, because they are SO AWESOME.  I have intentionally chosen the craziest ones so that you will have no chance of spoiling yourself on (one of) the plots.

Okay, so judging by these, Shakespeare spends a pleasant evening on a nice walk, encounters a jester while trying to write something, then becomes a skeleton at the bottom of the sea.  I'm not saying you can DEFINITELY make this happen in the book, but let's just say... there is potential.

I'll have another update when we send the book to the printer - thanks everyone!
